A gameplay clip posted by Light_88_ shows the player throwing a Poké Ball freely outside of battle, as in the Legends games — but with a yellow meter that rises and falls before each throw, the player timing an input against it to set how far the ball travels. A full charge reportedly triggers an animation of the player shielding their eyes to watch the ball fly. No previously leaked or officially shown footage, either Legends game included, has used a distance control like this. The clip is described as coming from an early development build, so the mechanic may not survive to release.

Leaker Riddler Khu claims the Winds & Waves release window has narrowed to "late 2027," with no further game news expected during 2026 — the next likely reveal would be Pokémon Day 2027. This conflicts with an earlier CentroLeaks claim of an internal September 2027 target; both remain single-origin and neither is officially confirmed, so treat the release month as genuinely unresolved rather than picking a side.

New map images attributed to CentroLeaks label the gyms island by island: Grass, Poison, Flying, Fighting, Dark, Steel and Fairy, with no Dragon gym among them. Once the gym types and the Majin/Netsu battle types are struck off the eighteen-type chart, only Electric, Water, Bug and Dragon are left over — which is why the community reads those four as the Elite Four line-up. The elimination step is fan reasoning, not part of the leak itself.

A leak names Drowzee, Psyduck, Shellos, Nincada, Houndour, Zweilous, Onix, Clamperl, Pikachu, Lucario, Kecleon, Arcanine and Salandit as getting either a regional variant or one of the new "weather forms" — a mechanic in which a Pokémon shifts form mid-battle in response to the climate. Psyduck is additionally claimed to receive two new evolutions. The claimant explicitly flags the build as placeholder-heavy and subject to change.

CentroLeaks' "Part 3" post claims Onix, Houndour, and Zweilous will each receive a new regional evolution, with no new Eeveelution "at least in the current build." The same post describes an underwater point of interest called Neon Abyss — a Glimwood-Tangle-style coral reef — plus areas of the region reachable only by flying.

The same billy/CentroLeaks leak batch that named ~300 new Pokémon also describes Winds & Waves internally as an "MMOlite" with heavy focus on communication features, structured around three main stories similar to Scarlet/Violet — pitched as the "most personable" generation yet. The leak notes the game's scope has already been reduced from an earlier, more ambitious pitch.

A region map posted by CentroLeaks shows Winds & Waves as a sprawling Indonesia- and Southeast-Asia-inspired archipelago: 17 main islands plus an uninhabited one, separate ocean zones, and diveable underwater areas, each island carrying its own biome and landmarks. The map is reportedly rendered from a July 2024 development build out of the Game Freak "Teraleak", so island count and layout may not match the shipped game — and estimates that put the region many times the size of Paldea are fan measurements, not a leaked figure.

Leakers with a track record on the generation report that Game Freak plans no major gameplay or story reveal for Winds & Waves during 2026, breaking the usual staged marketing run-up. Community speculation, inferred from trailer visuals rather than a datamine, points at a Southeast-Asian-inspired island archipelago region. Box legendaries are theorized as "Garuda" (Winds) and "Naga" (Waves) based on regional mythology — the region itself remains officially unnamed, and the legendary names are explicitly fan theory. The Southeast-Asian setting itself has since been backed by a leaked region map (see "Leaked region map shows a 17-island archipelago..."); the box-legendary names have not.
