Questions

How do I read the Pokémon type chart?

Find the attacking move’s type in the rows and the defending Pokémon’s type in the columns. 2 means super effective (double damage), ½ means not very effective (half damage), 0 means no effect, and an empty cell means normal damage.

What do 4× and ¼× mean?

A Pokémon with two types takes both multipliers at once. If both of its types are weak to an attack, it takes 4× damage; if both resist it, it takes ¼×. If either type is immune, the attack does nothing.

Which types are immune to which attacks?

Normal is immune to Ghost. Ghost is immune to Normal and Fighting. Ground is immune to Electric, Flying to Ground, Dark to Psychic, Steel to Poison and Fairy to Dragon.

What changed in the type chart in Generation 6?

Generation 6 added the Fairy type, which is immune to Dragon and strong against Fighting, Dragon and Dark. Steel also stopped resisting Ghost and Dark moves.

How was the Gen 1 type chart different?

Red, Blue and Yellow had no Dark, Steel or Fairy types. Ghost moves did nothing to Psychic Pokémon, Bug and Poison were super effective against each other, and Ice moves did normal damage to Fire Pokémon.
