The Berry Master lives with his wife on Route 123 in original Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. He gives two random Berries each day; she gives one. The Berry Master codes are special two-word sayings for his wife; each earns its rare Berry once per save. Choose the words for your cartridge’s language, then plant your reward to build a lasting supply.

Where is the Berry Master in Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire?
Approach from Mauville City: cross the water on Route 118 with Surf, then keep walking east into the western end of Route 123. The house is beside six double Berry patches, giving twelve planting spots. You do not need to become Champion to meet the couple or receive the Master’s gifts.
The route’s ledges make the eastern approach a one-way walk westward. For repeat visits, the Mauville approach reaches the house without crossing the entire route. Leave a seed crop nearby so gathering gifts and watering become one quick stop.

The Master rolls twice from Berries #21–30. Both gifts can be the same variety, and there is no weekday schedule or phrase that selects his reward. Continue his dialogue until he offers the second Berry. In Emerald, his first six possible varieties also lower EVs; in Ruby and Sapphire they do not. Tip — Make room before the first gift: If your Berry pocket cannot accept the second gift, you cannot simply reopen his dialogue to reclaim it that day: the daily flag has already been set after the first. Clear enough space for both rewards before talking.
Berry Master wife phrases: choose two words in order
Talk to the wife on the right and select two entries from Easy Chat. This is the game’s word list, rather than a keyboard for typing arbitrary text. A word such as “DI CLASSE” can occupy one slot even though it contains a space. Word order matters; English sayings do not work on a German cartridge.

Note — German Ruby and Sapphire have a real Belue exception: Their wife phrase compares SUPER with an empty second-word entry. You cannot submit that empty pair as a completed normal saying. German Emerald corrects it to SUPER ÜBEREIFER. Obtain a German Ruby/Sapphire Belue seed through another compatible original Gen 3 source, then grow it; see all Berry sources.
Seeing Latias or Latios is enough to unlock its word: you do not need a caught Pokédex entry. Your roaming choice does not automatically supply both species. Use the Latios and Latias guide for the encounter rules, or trade for the missing one. The Hall of Fame requirement applies to particular words, not to entering the house.
Wife phrases in Spanish, Japanese, French and Italian
Choose the language printed on your original cartridge. Search by its English or local name to see its five recipes. Each phrase shows two Easy Chat entries in menu order; the original word list supplies capitalization, accents and punctuation. The Nintendo Spanish guide omits several accents in its printed table, so its text below is preserved as published.

Note — What has been verified for each language: English and German pairs are checked against matching original game source; our live screenshots use German Emerald. The Spanish rows come from Nintendo’s original Emerald guide, and Japanese rows from a historical researcher’s original-game tests. French and Italian rows preserve contemporary player recipes; exact menu spelling and every Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald variant remain unverified. They are not claimed as foreign-cartridge play tests.
Japanese Spelon Berry: すごい しょうぶ works in the original three games. Historical firsthand research also records すごい しょうり in Ruby/Sapphire, but reports that this alternative fails in Emerald. For Belue Berry, the Japanese words モーレツ and ハッスル must both be taught by the Hipster in Mauville City. Becoming Champion is not a substitute for learning those two trendy words.
French recipes here follow contemporary reports of SPLENDIDE COMBAT and CONCOURS DEFI. Some other old guides print LUTTE or reverse the second pair; those alternatives have not been verified against original retail assets. Italian DI CLASSE is one word-list entry, while historical reports write the last saying as TUTTAFRETTA URRÀ; select the corresponding menu entry rather than trying to type your own punctuation.
Can you repeat rare wife phrases for more Berries?
Each of the five rare rewards has its own once-per-save flag. After receiving one, repeating its exact saying gives a random ordinary Berry from #1–10. A different unused rare phrase can still work on a later day. The wife supplies one accepted gift per day in total, so five rewards need at least five eligible visits.
Plant your first Pamtre Berry before blending it for Feebas or a Beauty Contest. These five rare varieties take 72 hours to reach their first ripe crop when the clock advances normally. Why does the Berry Master not give a new daily gift?
The game checks calendar-day changes when you talk to either NPC. This is not a separate 24-hour timer starting from the last gift. A cartridge with a dry battery can still play and save, but its real-time clock stops advancing, so daily flags may never reset. Cancelling the wife’s word menu does not spend her daily gift. If she cannot put the Berry in your bag, the gift and rare-reward flags are not set; make space and try again. Once she successfully gives an ordinary Berry, however, returning with a better saying cannot upgrade that day’s reward.
Berry Master questions
- Can I get the Berry Master’s two gifts and a rare wife Berry on the same day?
- Yes. Their daily flags are separate, so collect both of his gifts and one of hers during the same visit.
- Why is CONTEST missing from the Berry Master wife word list?
- CONTEST belongs to the Events word group, unlocked after you enter the Hall of Fame. In German, look for WETTBEWERB instead.
- Do I need to catch Latias or Latios for the wife’s phrases?
- No. A seen Pokédex entry unlocks the corresponding Pokémon word; catching or trading for it also satisfies that.
- Does German Ruby or Sapphire accept SUPER ÜBEREIFER?
- No: the original German Ruby/Sapphire phrase table contains an empty second entry for Belue. German Emerald uses SUPER ÜBEREIFER correctly.
- Can I save and reload to receive all five rare Berries in one day?
- Reloading an earlier save reverses that visit’s reward. It does not let you keep multiple wife gifts for the same day on one normal save.
- Are the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire wife instructions the same?
