You need
One Berry to plant and the Wailmer Pail to water it.
Best starting stop
The Pretty Petal Flower Shop on Route 104; later, the Berry Master on Route 123.
Reference
43 Berry slots; six compact tables below cover effects, sources, growth and blending values.

This Hoenn BerryDex covers Berries that can heal your team, restore PP, prepare a Contest winner and, in Emerald, undo unwanted EV training. The useful habit is simple: keep one of each new variety for planting before you spend the rest. A rare gift can become a renewable crop, but eating or blending your last copy leaves you needing another source.

Start with the Wailmer Pail from the Wailmer Pail Girl in the Pretty Petal Flower Shop on Route 104. Pick ripe trees as you travel, check the daily gifts below, and grow the ingredients your team actually needs. For Contest preparation, use the Pokéblock recipes alongside the Contest guide; raw Berry flavors are ingredients, not the final condition gain.

How to grow Berries in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald

Follow the same Cheri plant on Route 123 through its five visible states. These are real Emerald frames: the capture clock was advanced between stages, so twelve hours of growth can be compared here. The original save and tree growth data were not edited.

12 hours: ripe Cheri Berries. Harvest the ripe crop and keep a Berry to replant. Real Pokémon Emerald capture with accelerated cartridge clock; © Nintendo / Creatures / GAME FREAK.
  1. Plant a spare Stand beside an empty patch, choose a Berry and plant it. The timer starts with this new crop. Plant several copies of a useful variety in one accessible area so you can maintain them on the same schedule.
  2. Water four different stages Use the Wailmer Pail once while planted, once as a sprout, once when taller, and once while flowering. Repeated watering within one stage adds no extra watering credit. Four stages watered improves the yield, but does not guarantee the maximum listed harvest.
  3. Return for the ripe crop The first harvest takes four growth stages. A Berry with a three-hour stage is ready after twelve hours; one with an eighteen-hour stage needs seventy-two. The reference tables give the full first-harvest time, so you do not need to multiply it yourself.
  4. Pick, reserve, replant Harvest while the tree is ripe, put aside seed stock and replant. If you miss the ripe period, the crop eventually falls and the plant grows again. Repeatedly neglected crops ultimately disappear. Picking the fruit yourself protects your supply and gives you a fresh watering cycle.
Example: a newly planted Cheri Berry has four three-hour stages. These times assume the cartridge clock advances normally.

Sprout3–6 hoursWater once.
Taller plant6–9 hoursWater once.

RipeFrom 12 hoursPick before the ripe period ends; reserve one and replant.

Choose a crop that matches how often you play. Razz Berry, Bluk Berry, Nanab Berry, Wepear Berry and Pinap Berry can produce a first crop in four hours, but need frequent visits. The rare wife-gift varieties take seventy-two hours. A slower Berry is easy to overlook if you mix it among fast crops, so keep separate patches or a simple planting-time note.

Daily Berry locations in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald

A daily gift is a replenishment source, not a promise of a particular random Berry. Visit the same people on later days until you have the varieties you need. The Berry Master gives two independently chosen Berries, so collecting both is worthwhile.

The Berry from the Berry Beauty on Route 120 is fixed by the final decimal digit of your Trainer ID: 0 or 5 gives Figy Berry; 1 or 6 Wiki Berry; 2 or 7 Mago Berry; 3 or 8 Aguav Berry; 4 or 9 Iapapa Berry. Waiting another day supplies another copy of the same variety. Trading is useful when you want a different one.

Berry Master wife phrases

Use the Berry Master and wife guide for the house map, daily gift pools, word-menu screenshots and cartridge-language recipes. The English phrases below remain a quick reference.

Speak to the Berry Master’s wife on Route 123 and select the two words below. These are the English-game phrases; another language uses its own Easy Chat words. Each special reward is available once per save and uses that day’s gift. Plant the reward before blending it.

One-time special rewards: select these two Easy Chat words.

GREAT BATTLESpelon BerrySpicy → Cool
CHALLENGE CONTESTPamtre BerryDry → Beauty
OVERWHELMING LATIASWatmel BerrySweet → Cute

The word list must contain both words. In Emerald, CONTEST becomes available after entering the Hall of Fame. The Pokémon-name words require the corresponding seen Pokédex entry: seeing Latias does not also unlock Latios. If a phrase is unavailable, work on that prerequisite instead of trying a similar-looking word.

The numbered Berry pocket in Emerald shows a Cheri Berry and its paralysis-healing description.
Use the game’s Berry number to identify a variety across languages. No. 01 AMRENABEERE is Cheri: the lower-left text describes its paralysis-healing effect. All Berries in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald

The tables distinguish original planted trees, gifts and external sources. A route lists a starting-tree location; after planting your own crop, any suitable empty patch can become a source. Grow times are for a newly planted Berry. Yield is the possible number harvested from one crop.

Flavor values are the raw blending ingredients. Smoothness contributes to the finished Pokéblock’s Feel; the blender’s other ingredients and participant count also matter. See Pokéblock recipes and Feel before deciding which Berry to feed to a Contest specialist.

Where to get Ganlon, Salac, Petaya and Apicot Berries

The repeatable original-game route is the Mt. Battle Coupon Exchange in Colosseum or XD: Gale of Darkness. Finish the GameCube story before using this route. Each of these four Berries costs 15,000 PokéCoupons, so one seed of each costs 60,000. These are Coupons earned from battle challenges, not ordinary money or Emerald Battle Points. You can buy another whenever you earn enough; no old event distribution is needed for this shop route.

On original hardware, use the GameCube disc and memory-card save, a GBA or GBA SP, a Hoenn cartridge and the Nintendo GameCube–Game Boy Advance cable. Match the GameCube game’s language to the receiving GBA game; a Japanese or North American disc is not a universal connection for every European cartridge language. The original GBA transfer rules explain the separate cable and save requirements.

For a held-item transfer from Colosseum or XD, finish the GameCube story to unlock the Phenac City Pokémon Center’s Trade Center. Give the bought Berry to an ordinary Pokémon or a fully purified Shadow Pokémon, save the receiving GBA game in a Pokémon Center, then trade the holder. Emerald needs the Pokédex for Colosseum trading; XD additionally requires its GBA save to have entered the Hall of Fame. The National Pokédex is not a separate requirement for these Emerald connections. If you first receive a Berry in another GBA game, an ordinary held-item GBA trade can bring it into your target Hoenn save.

Tip — Buy seed stock, then grow the supply you need: Once a Berry reaches Hoenn, plant it before blending or battling with it. These four varieties take 96 hours for a new crop and yield one or two Berries. A working clock and a reserve crop save another 15,000-Coupon purchase. Switch releases need their own confirmed connection rules; the original cable procedure does not establish support on Switch.

Enigma Berry and e-Reader compatibility

No. 43 is a special slot: scanning a compatible e-Reader Berry card into Ruby or Sapphire installs that card’s Berry name, appearance, effect and growth data. It does not hand you a universal Enigma Berry with later-generation healing rules. There is room for one card variety per save, however many copies you grow.

Original Berry cards: match the game, card and reader language

English Ruby / SapphireEnglish Series 1: Pumkin, Drash, Eggant, Strib, Chilan and Nutpea.Use an English e-Reader and English cards. Japanese card data is incompatible.

German, French, Italian or Spanish Ruby / SapphireNo compatible retail Berry-card set.Owning English or Japanese cards does not make them work with another cartridge language.
Emerald; FireRed / LeafGreenThe Ruby/Sapphire Berry-card sets are incompatible, including Japanese games.Japanese trainer/map card support is a separate feature. It does not supply these Berry cards.

For a compatible R/S setup, use two GBAs, the e-Reader in one, the game in the other and a GBA Game Link Cable. Unlock Mystery Event, save, scan the matching Berry card and collect it from Norman in Petalburg City’s Gym. Plant a reserve to grow more. To collect another starter copy from Norman after running out, scan again and make sure neither the Bag nor PC already contains this special Berry.

Warning — A new card replaces the old variety: Scanning a different Berry card changes the shared slot, including copies in your Bag, PC, held items and planted crops. You cannot keep twelve different card varieties on the same save. An ordinary GBA trade also refuses a party carrying this special Berry; remove it before entering the Trade Center or Union Room.

A documented Japanese collector setup uses Pokémon Box Ruby & Sapphire: deposit a Pokémon holding a scanned card Berry, then withdraw it into a compatible Japanese Hoenn save that has never installed a Berry card. The receiving save uses the blank Enigma Berry data instead of the donor’s card variety. This bypasses ordinary trading through Box storage; it does not install an e-Reader card in Emerald or establish a route for German cartridges or Western Box releases. Emerald needs its Hall of Fame completion to use Box. The fallback values in row 43 describe this blank slot, while the scanned varieties use their own data.

EV reducing Berries in Emerald

Use Pomeg Berry, Kelpsy Berry, Qualot Berry, Hondew Berry, Grepa Berry or Tamato Berry from the Bag to lower its matching EV stat by ten. Emerald reduces the existing value by ten each time, down to zero; it does not use the later-generation shortcut that first drops a high value to 100. These Berries also raise friendship. In Ruby and Sapphire they do not perform this EV reset.

If you are correcting a team, identify the stat you want to erase before spending your crop. Resetting HP with Pomeg Berry will not remove Attack EVs. Reserve another seed, finish the correction, then train only the encounters you intend to use.

Which Berries should you save?

Keep routine supplies of Leppa Berry for long outings, Lum Berry for status protection and Sitrus Berry for thirty-HP healing. For Contest projects, grow the Berry Master’s stronger ingredients and the matching wife reward. Rare held Berries are consumed when they activate, so planting before a battle protects more than your collection.

A full collection needs more than the daily circuit. Liechi Berry grows on Mirage Island. Ganlon Berry, Salac Berry, Petaya Berry and Apicot Berry need an outside Generation III source and a compatible trade into Hoenn. Emerald adds Scott’s Lansat Berry and Starf Berry rewards for complete silver and gold Symbol sets. The Enigma Berry slot depends on compatible historical card data; its presence in the reference is not an ordinary in-game pickup.

Berry growth and rare Berry questions

Why are Berry trees not growing in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald?
Check whether the cartridge’s real-time clock is advancing. A depleted GBA cartridge battery stops timed growth and daily gifts. Ruby and Sapphire also have a historical Berry-clock glitch; a stopped clock needs the appropriate battery or game-data fix. Repeated watering cannot repair a timer.
Can I guarantee the largest Berry harvest?
No. Water once in each of the four growth stages to improve your possible yield. Watering the same stage repeatedly does not add credit, and the resulting harvest still includes randomness.
Does Sitrus Berry heal a quarter of HP in Generation III?
No. In these games it restores a fixed 30 HP. Figy, Wiki, Mago, Aguav and Iapapa restore one eighth of maximum HP and can cause flavor-dependent confusion.
Are these Berry instructions the same on Switch?
This reference describes the original GBA games. For a Switch edition, use its confirmed clock, multiplayer and accessory support; original link or e-Reader requirements alone do not establish a Switch feature. The edition must support the relevant feature before an external-source plan will work.
What should I do after growing Contest Berries?
Follow the Pokéblock recipes, then the Contest guide for move choices and scoring. The Contest paintings guide covers the five portraits separately.
